Foreign Worker Medical Insurance (FWMI) is the compulsory Medical Insurance coverage that employers must provide for S Pass and work permit holders. This will indemnify the employer for hospital and surgical expenses incurred in Singapore by the insured employee if the insured FW requires to be hospitalized because of accidental bodily injury, sickness, or disease. 
 
As compared to Work Injury Compensation Insurance, FWMI also provides coverage for the employee’s hospital expenses outside of work. This provides an additional layer of coverage in the event where the employee is hospitalized due to any illness, injury, or disease during their stay in Singapore. This coverage, however, is subjected to an aggregate maximum sum of S$15,000 per employee per policy year. 
 
With Singapore’s medical inflation rate for 2019 and 2020 at an all-time high of 10% per year, it is assuring for employers to be insured in case of any unforeseen circumstances that may arise during the employee’s period of employment.
